Marty's book
Wil's Book at last.
Here you go Wil. This is a general take from videos and still images, less from the actual cd. Not a huge fan of the music, but I am interested in some of Fever Ray's themes. I love this crazy bratty suburban shaman figure from videos. I hope that you like it. It is an image that didn't go particularly smoothly, therefore it evolved. I think it is the better for it. You will see that I did some extra collaging and tearing. I think that there are three butterflies stacked atop each other.
Here it comes, Emma.

I went a bit crazy, but it would be honest
I have been thinking about this moleskine since it landed in my hands, and knew I just had to put the album on and go for it. I took up a lot of room, but I think it is an honest interpretation of the music for me. It is a similar reaction for me as Marina, I think. It conjured up rain and being in Europe with my husband's family.

Excuse me everybody!
Today I received Lynne's book. And Marty's one is still laying on my writing-table...I'm really sorry for delay- I'm just a poor student with lack of time because of midyear examinations...I'm ashamed for it very much and I'll make my "turn" as soon as possible!

Marina's book.
I am doing books out of order. Sue me! I will do Will's next. Hope that you like this Marina. Yours is turning into a busy book. It will be very, very interesting to see how it looks completed. I will put it in the mail tomorrow. Marina, I think that we used the same photo reference, so my art matches the image of AC that you drew inside the front cover. There are a couple other little tiny bits I added other places in the book.

No Words
Here is my addition to Marinas moly, I have chosen the track 'No words' , like Wil I have not listened to much Jazz, and hated this cd on first listening....then I put it on in the car, drove around listening to it and now I think it is wonderful ! Thank you so much for the introduction !
I hope the entry I have made doesn't come over as too dark, but it is how the track affected me :-)

Leh Lah
I had never heard of the jazz basest before so it was great to hear some new tunes, jazz too something I've never really tried, I really liked the track called "Remembering". I've never played a string instrument at all but i wondered if it was like trailing your hand in water (but flying). I used some references from the early BBC SSO work I did earlier too. Lynne I'll try and get this in the post tomorrow.

Getting going again
I am certainly enjoying painting over the top of the screen printing that Marty created. I see images within the mixing of paint, and am happily painting away while listening to the music. I really missed working and being able to leave stuff about and come back to it without packing it all completely away. Anyway. Still working.

First Snow of the Year.
It won't last the day, but it's pretty. Ought to be cold and crisp on our camping trip in northern Minnesota next weekend. I am so excited. I hope we have weather just like this 50°F high temperature today.
Do you see Pearl, our Greyhound in the doorway. The other dog, Marko, not shown, is not so impressed with the snow. This dog, Pearl, is from Texas. She is impressed by snow, even this little bit. Me too. Pretty day.

“Hana” – my entry in Ooli’s moly.
It took me a while… I was a little bit busy, but was keeping in the meantime the Ooli’s song in my head. Once you’ve heard it, you’ll never forget it. The music is like a daydream, full of emotions, it woke up too many associations in my head. I searched the web for the lyrics translation, but didn’t find anything. Only that “Hana” in Japanese means flower. I added a haiku by Kijo Murakami, which seemed suitable here. I think this is a love song, which is also a kind of story that makes you drift away, sometimes too far away that you can’t find your way back.
It was a challenge to follow the amazing Ooli’s drawing. Hope you like it.

One of those entries....!!
One of those entries where everything I plan goes wrong, but I like it. I hope you will enjoy working in this book. I am hoping that you will feel free to draw and paint as you wish over my designs.
I will send the music on a cd with the package. Let me know if you have trouble with the format of the music. As I wrote on the back of the book, I do not really think of Carl Stalling's music as a dark or nocturnal. It is bright, bold, funny, and often dangerous. His music is controlled chaos. It is filled with references to all kinds of music, very eclectic. I hope that I succeeded with the controlled chaos part.
Emma, here it comes.

keep the streets empty for me
Memory comes when memory's old
I am never the first to know
Following the stream up North
Where do people like us float
There is room in my lap
For bruises, asses, handclaps
I will never disappear
Forever, I'll be here
Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
I’m laying down and eating snow
My fur is hot, my tongue is cold
On a bed of spider web
I think of how to change myself
A lot of hope in a one man tent
There's no room for innocence
Take me home before the storm
Velvet moths will keep us warm
Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
Uncover our heads and reveal our souls
We were hungry before we were born

Work in progress.
I used a screenprinting squeegee and any free ink that I could find at the printmaking studio. I'm going to try screenprinting my entry into this book. I know it will get goofed up. I'm very clumsy with screenprinting. That will be part of its charm. Right?
Filled the entire book with background color. I know that's no trouble for this gang. I hope that it inspires.

My Remembering
Maybe this album took me to the too personal direction. My frontispiece shows the album name “At Home” ,that brought me to the place that I born, to my first home (at Brest, Byelorussia). I hope it’s not too nostalgic. As for my Remembering… There are too many associations. I started from the simplest one - the piano sounds, my mom teaching me to play piano, and so on… I already have stuff for the tracks to spread over the book. I’ll show them later.
You can choose another song from this album. I’m going to attach a CD for each of you.
Happy creation! Enjoy the music!

A story of going away
I was afraid but finally I've finished...Firstly I should say that the second source of my inspiration (besides the song) was the 'Cat Soup' movie which is strongly associated with 'Hana' in my mind. I've decided to make a story about "going away"- out of the common world. I tried to find some lyrics of 'Hana' in the internet but I failed. The cause seems to be nobody undedrstands Japanese)). But what I found- the name of the group (Junray) also means 'pilgrimage' and 'Asa-Chang is on a mission to take music to places it's never been'. So I think I was right in my interpetation...
I haven't made the frontispiece yet and I didn't left 'traces' but I'm going to make a small 'tale' of the story
That's it

I think I 'm done...
This is a very compressed version of my moleskine.
I am worried I haven't done enough in it...
... as you can see here... do I need to worry, or do I add at the end if I think I need to?

So, this is as much as I want to share for the moment. I have been doing work throughout the book and wonder if I am taking over, but probably not. There are only six of us after all. I'll show you the parts that are drying later.

I can hardly wait for you to hear it.
There is a collection of music by a fellow named Carl Stalling and the Warner Bros. Orchestra. You may recognize this music as the background music to Looney Tunes cartoons. It is tremendously visual without lyrics, and crazy fun. I will send a cd for each of you (5) along with the book.
Do you think that we can fill this book without drawing a single Looney Tunes character?

What a group!!
Welcome, Wil.
What do you all think of the mailing order. Do y'all think the order to the right makes sense? I also considered styles and, selfishly, who I've worked next to before. Please make suggestions if you have feelings about this, or feel free to make a change.
